Conroe is a city in Texas, the United States which is the principal city within Houston – The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan Area. It is the capital city of Montgomery County with an area spread of 72 Sq. Miles (186 Sq. Km). This city is about 40 miles (60 Km) north of Houston
The city’s population was 56,207 as of 2010 and had a significant rise in 2016 with a total population of 82,286. The city’s population density is 1,142.9 per Sq. Mile (441.3/km2) as on 2016. Conroe was the fastest growing large city in the United States according to the census bureau between July 1, 2015, and July 1, 2016.
History
Conroe was named after Isaac Conroe who was a north-born union cavalry officer and Houston lumberman. In 1881, Conroe started a sawmill in this city and the city’s original wealth was from lumber and oil industries. Conroe’s Switch, as it was originally named. Due to the lumber demands on the pinewood forest, the area gained residential entry during the late 19th century because of the lumber business.
The city showed off more millionaires per capita than any other U.S. city during 1930 with its profits from the oil industry. Many people from Houston began to settle communities around Conroe after the construction of Interstate 45. With the first 10 years of 21st century, the city attracted many residents from the Houston area, though Conroe city officials had to use financial incentives to attract home developers to develop communities around Conroe. As a result, Conroe became the hotspot for constructing new houses.

# 1 Crighton Theatre
Crighton Theatre is the oldest theatre which was opened on November 26, 1935. The theatre was functioning as a community’s movie theatre until the year 1967. In 1979, after the renovation, this theatre now hosts live theatrical performances. The name Crighton came after Harry M.Crighton who was the mayor of the city from 1932-1933. Because of its history, it is known as the “Crown Jewel of Montgomery County” and remains as a centerpiece of downtown.
#2 Owen Theatre
There’s another theatre which is owned by the City of Conroe called Owen Theatre. This building was built in 1946 as the Weisinger Pontiac/ GMC Dealership which is an upscale theatre and can accommodate up to 250 people. This theatre has been renovated to produce and perform live theatrical performances.
# 3 Heritage Museum Of Montgomery County
One of the landmarks which contribute towards the history of Conroe is The Heritage Museum Of Montgomery County. This Museum is located within the Candy Cane Park which features the life of Charles B. Stewart, designer of the state flag and the state seal. The museum offers other historic monuments and travel exhibits.
# 4 Lone Star Monument & Historical Flag Park
The Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park are located in the heart of Montgomery County. The monument pays tribute to the history of flags that flew over Texas. The park is made in a way that the flags are positioned in a circle with a statue of a resident of Mexican Texas at the center. Each flag has a plaque which best describes its connection to Texas history. Charles B. Stewart’s statue is situated at the entrance of the park commemorating his work towards the design of Lone Star Flag. There’s also Montgomery Central Library located in the park which is a famous public library in Conroe.
Beside these landmarks are many landmarks and historical places describing the history of Conroe like Montgomery War Memorial Park which is located next to Montgomery County tax office. This memorial commemorates 166 soldiers from the county who have been killed in active duty. Conroe has other landmarks and historical places to explore.

Lake Conroe
Lake Conroe is a 21,000- acre (85 Km2) lake in the Montgomery County. Though only a small portion of the lake is in Conroe it is named as Lake Conroe. This is one of the most popular attractions and is a major tourist spot for boating, Jet-Skiing, and Fishing.
7 Acre Wood
This is an old-fashioned family fun park which kids would love in visiting the petting zoo, mini golf course, sandbox, huge playground, pool, and much more for kids to enjoy.
There are many breweries around Conroe for the perfect hand-crafted beer and to have a look at how it is made. With forests, up hills, water-based sports, farms and golf courses Conroe has many tourist attractions. The city also has many adventurous activities in line with the event and cultural shows.
