Experience the action of exotic animals, birds, reptiles including Anacondas, the giant panda. Have a fun-filled tour in San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, San Diego, California. San Diego Zoo has more than 3,700 animals of more than 650 species. The concept of open-air cageless animal exhibition creates a natural experience with the animals. The zoo has a widespread land of 100 acres (40 hectares) in Balboa Park


San Diego Zoo has a guided bus service which caters 75% of the park and also a Kangaroo bus which hops from stops to stops for every 15 minutes. The Zoo also offers sky safari with an overhead tramway called “skyfari” which provides a breathtaking aerial view of the zoo. With the San Diego Zoo Safari park, we can experience the animals in a more expansive way than the zoo. It has many areas for children like Elephant play yard to play with elephant trails, dig fossils and play maze games. It also offers other theme based play areas like Discovery Playground in the Discovery outpost, koala Klimber, and Polar Play Area. Where Polar Play Area offers another awesome experience of comparing the size with a live size polar bear statue, go through the bear’s den and peek through the ice holes which is located in the northern frontier. 


 San Diego Zoo has many trails and theme based forest for a  natural animal habitat like Asian Passage which has a Sun bear forest featuring cascading waterfalls, bubbling streams and has exotic trees, plants and animals from the Asian origin like Sun Bear, Grizzly Bear and Indian Crested Porcupine. There are other indo-Chinese plants species including ginger. 


Elephant Odyssey is one of the most prominent urban jungles in San Diego Zoo with an astounding 2.5 acre of elephant habitat. The herd of elephants here includes 4 female elephants from the Asian and African origin. The Elephant Odyssey also gives its tourists a vision of the history with its fossil portal of the ancient creatures like Columbian Mammoth, the Saber-tooth cat, American Lion and the Daggett’s Eagle. Elephant Odyssey has other animals including some of the rare species like Baird’s Tapirs, capybaras, desert Tarantulas, rattlesnakes, western pond turtles and the California Condor. Animals like Arctic Foxes, Polar Bear and zebra can be viewed in the Northern Frontier. 


The Panda Canyon features the giant panda, red panda, and Takin. These pandas can also be viewed from a web-based San Diego Zoo Panda Cam. In addition to these species, there are other animals such as snow leopards, Amur leopards, Pitviper snakes and has over 40 varieties of bamboo. 


There are many other theme based areas to explore like African rocks, Discovery Outpost, Lost Forest, Outback and Urban Jungle which has a large collection of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Also apart from the fauna, the San Diego Zoo has more than 700,000 exotic plant collections. With the self-sufficient gardening efforts, the zoo produces more than 40 varieties of bamboo for the pandas and about 18 varieties of eucalyptus trees for koalas.
